Back in Aiden’s apartment, he excused himself to take a shower. I pulled off my jeans as Aiden’s tee was long enough to swallow me wholly before making myself comfortable on the couch in the living room. Then, I took his Key I’d borrowed so I could text back Sheryl.

“Ruined my Key. Sry, can’t come tonight. Pls don’t write back anything awkward. This is Aiden’s.”

Her reply came a second after I’d hit the send button. “Okayyy… We’ll talk tomorrow about Aiden.”

I groaned, face-palming myself. “What did I say about not writing anything awkward???”

“Sry, can’t help myself… See ya tomorrow, hun ;)”

I let my head fall back against the cushions trying very hard not to focus on the rushing water coming from the bathroom and therefore fantasizing about Aiden standing naked under the shower. Would he sleep on the couch tonight? Did I even want him to sleep there? I’d feel guilty because the couch was definitely too short for his tall frame. Should I offer to sleep on the couch? I couldn’t even remember when had been the last time I’d slept next to a man.

I’d had my fair share of guys back in the day before my life went down the road to hell. I’d been a self-conscious young woman who knew exactly about her effects on men and used it to her benefit. At school, I’d been the girl at the center of attention, the one everyone was jealous of, the one that turned heads and was invited to every party. I’d known how to use my charm going out at night wearing skirts not longer than belts, tops pushing up my breasts to my chin, and boots that whores would’ve killed for.

And now here I was, skittish like a teenager who received her first kiss, clueless how to handle the situation. I needed to remind myself that Aiden was my boss, and my career was in his hands. I couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.

I heard the shower turning off and waited for Aiden to come out of the bathroom to ask him about the sleeping arrangements. After I picked up the sound of feet tapping in the direction of the bedroom, I stood up walking after him.

“Hey, I just wanted to ask where… I…” I trailed off taking in the sight in front of me forgetting what I was about to say.

Aiden stood in front of his four-poster bed—his back to me, upper body bare. The faded jeans and the waistband of his boxers peeking through hanging low on his defined hips, was a godlike sight to behold, but it was not the reason why I lost my voice, nor was it the reason why Aiden froze to the spot just like me.

I should have turned around apologizing for storming in without announcement, but my feet slowly crept forward, my eyes glued to Aiden’s muscular back. His head lightly dipped to the side as he heard me approaching, but he didn’t dare to face me maybe afraid of my reaction.
